HRPBC Diversity Initiative

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has defined diversity as “the collective mixture of differences and similarities that includes for example, individual and organizational characteristics, values, beliefs, experiences, backgrounds, preferences, and behaviors.” Diversity has expanded into the concept of inclusion. SHRM defines inclusion as “the achievement of a work environment in which all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully, have equal access to opportunities and resources, and can contribute fully to the organization’s success.”

Mission

HRPBC's mission is to promote inclusion in our organizations as an acknowledged key success driver. HRPBC's goal is to educate, inform, and empower HR Professionals to build inclusive organizations where all employees thrive and organizations achieve success.

Celebrating Disability Inclusion for More than 70 Years

National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week was established in 1945 by Congress for the first week in October. In 1998 it was renamed National Disability Employment Awareness Month and extended to the entire month of October. In 2001 the Office of Disability Employment Policy took over promoting and maintaining National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). It’s not too early to start thinking ahead to NDEAM 2018! From simple displays of support, such as putting up a poster, to comprehensive initiatives, such as implementing a disability education program, there are many ways to take part. For more NDEAM ideas, visit www.dol.gov/ndeam.

HRPBC encourages organizations of all sizes and in all industries to participate in NDEAM, because all efforts play an important part in fostering a more inclusive workforce, one where every person is recognized for.

Stay tuned for details on NDEAM 2018 as it approaches.
